Welcome to the Johns Island life.
Porch rockin’ is a way of life on Johns Island. It means sitting back, slowing down, and finding peace in cool breezes laced with the sun-warmed scents of jasmine and tea rose. It means catching up with friends and family as they pull up a chair or just soaking in the beauty of dappled sunlight through winding, ancient oak limbs.
This life is what the Porch Rockin’ B&B is all about. With five rooms to suit every family's needs, our 2,850 sf vintage-inspired farmhouse offers space, comfort, and all the warmth and care that’s embedded in the Johns Island spirit.
Opened by Liza Lou in 2019, the Porch Rockin’ B&B is filled with her love for the Lowcountry. From precious memories of childhood trips to Sullivan’s Island to a sophisticated nod to Charleston’s fine taste and renowned friendliness, this bed and breakfast feels like home before you walk in the front door. The wide front porch wraps around to a large back yard complete with an oak tree-suspended swing and views of the lush maritime forest. Inside, a beautiful wide-plank reclaimed wood floor draws your eyes to the open family dining table, massive brick fireplace, and cozy seating for up to 25 people. A comfortable slate-floored bar room around the back welcomes small gatherings and opens onto the back porch, which features a large grill and room with additional seating that include three large tables and benches under the lights hanging form the canopy of the trees. Very picturesque.
Steeped in a storied background of working with some of Charleston’s most venerated local establishments, Liza knows how to treat her guests with true Lowcountry hospitality. From a fully stocked fridge filled with produce, eggs, and sausages from local Johns Island farms to jars of her homemade, locally famous Porch Rockin’ Jams, Liza makes sure that visitors to the Porch Rockin’ B&B have only to worry about when to ease off the porch...and into a soft night’s sleep.
If you’re looking to do more than just wind down at the house, the Porch Rockin’ B&B is located within 20 minutes to downtown Charleston, a 15-minute drive of Beachwalker Park on Kiawah Island, and within a few minutes’ drive of local horseback riding farms, produce farms, fresh seafood, a vineyard, the only tea plantation in the United States, garden-organic spas, several local breweries, nationally acclaimed restaurants, charter fishing trips, boat and kayak rentals, and local cafes. You’ll find that there’s always something to do and no rush to do it. If you are interested specifically in fishing charters and/or horseback riding, Liza can set you up with contact information.
Check out our availability and seasonal promotions above or feel free to reach out directly with any questions. We’re happy to help arrange bookings during your visit and provide recommendations. And if all you want to do is hang out on the porch and just let your stress slip away, we’d love that.
Liza Lou and her children live on the property along with their two sweet cats and look forward to welcoming you to the Porch Rockin’ family. The house is completely private and you will share it only with those family or friends that you are vacationing with. Liza Lou will be there to greet you on arrival. She lives on the property near the main house and also has her business kitchen building there too. You may occasionally see her and her staff but she tries to honor guests and their privcy as best as possible during their stay. Your privacy is important to her and she is concious and considerate when guests are in the main house allowing them space and peace. It is a wonderful spot for families especially with the swing and garden full of yummy berries and vegatables.
